Socialization
Our kittens are raised by my husband and myself so they have experience with both male and female humans. Our goal is to provide you with a confident kitten. They have played with many different types of toys, used different types of scratchers and cat trees, and are comfortable with being held. Please note that Selkirks love to feel their back legs are supported when they are in your arms. (They are what we call a "4 on the floor" breed.) I do not currently have children or dogs, but Selkirks are very adaptable cats and should be fine in these environments.
When you bring your new kitty home, you will want to keep him/her in a room by themself for the first few days so it doesn't feel overwhelmed. This will help them to adjust quicker to the new home. Don't forget to give your baby water, food, a litter box, a bed or blanket, and some toys like springs that they can play with independently. And be sure to visit with him/her so it can get to know you too!
If you have other pets at home, please wait to introduce them. They will smell each other under the door and get used to each other's scents. You can also take a blanket used by the kitten and one used by your other pet(s) and switch them out to help them adjust to the scents. To make sure everyone stays healthy, it is also recommended to wait until your new kitty has its first wellness check with your vet before you introduce everyone face to face.
